I wanted to take this opportunity to welcome you to the American School of Tegucigalpa webpage. AST strives to provide a challenging and individualized educational experience. Our experienced teachers provide a quality education through the use of alternative teaching techniques and creative thinking. We also render individualized services such as a diagnostician, counselor, as well as speech and hearing specialist.
Classroom climate and use of space support a rich learning experience where you can observe students gathered in partnerships with other elementary school students helping each other with reading and math, in programs such as Reading Buddies and Math Buddies which create a sense of community within the Elementary School. We use an integrated literacy program as an instructional platform for all grade level curriculums. The program is based on the Comprehensive Early Literacy (CELL/EXLL) framework which includes specific reading and writing strategies to support the teaching of reading and writing.” The Elementary curriculum includes weekly instruction in Music, Visual Arts, Physical Education, Computer Science and Library Skills. Technology is integrated in all areas of the curriculum to engage students and support instruction. Our academic and extracurricular activities enrich the overall experience of our students, preparing them with the organizational and knowledge base necessary for the continued success in the higher grade levels.
Our school provides a culture of respect through Character Education classes and the Solidarity Club . Our students are exposed to life-long values through age-appropriate activities. Children learn in a safe and disciplined environment in which respect to one-self, school and others are greatly valued.

My name is Mr. Ricardo A. Belgrave and I began my journey at this fine institution as a teacher in 2001. For the past seven years I have been the Middle School Principal and I would like to welcome you to our school’s web page. We like to believe that as an institution we are investing in our global future by providing a quality and well -rounded education for our students. One of the ways we service our community is by providing an excellent education that includes extracurricular activities, which teach our students the value of giving back to the community and how to be effective leaders who have values and substance.
We prepare our students according to the highest, most rigorous international standards. We have learned that when learning activities are presented in small groups, student engagement and motivation is improved. Differentiated teaching methods have been set as a school-wide best practice; such techniques encourage learners to receive instruction according to their individual needs. Student accommodations and individual educational plans are used to support their students in achieving their learning goals. Also, technology is integrated into the curriculum and offers students engaging learning activities. A typical Middle School classroom has an electronic board and overhead projector ready to display videos, images and websites to support instruction.
Students’ academic and social behavioral needs are supported by a Counseling Office, Special Services and the Character Education Program. Students perform skits and use role-play to target positive behavior. In addition, an anti-bullying program is in place to prevent bullying and negative behaviors.
