We are incredibly happy that will are having a wonderful start of the year. The  students seen enthusiastic about coming back to see friends and staff and parents during Open House could not have been more excited about their children’s teachers and the innovations in the technology area. (Power School)

The turn-over in personnel is proving to be a big plus and the computer- made- class- lists are proving to be a success, too

This Friday, August 27th we had a luncheon for them in the Art Room and we had a great time getting to know each other better!!

Special thanks:

  • To Mr. Jose Taufik Mourra. He sent us two humungous bags of candy to use with our Math Club, Math Buddies and other activities in the Elementary. Thank you so much.
  • To the parents who are sending items to the different classroom which were on the class wish lists. We have received umbrellas, treats for students, zip lock bags, construction paper, plastic baskets and pillows, among other items.
  • To the Miralda Nasser family who sent a large donation of books that will be used in the homeroom and Spanish libraries in the Elementary.
  • To the Hernandez Sternal family who sent a big donation of books that will be used in Math Club, Values and Guidance.
  • To the Facusse Valle family for a large book donation that we forwarded to High School.

As parents begin using Power School, we want to remind you that the Elementary does not necessarily input grades for every class every week. Our students are assessed based on standards and therefore will assess them at different times. Remember our goal is to achieve Mastery at the end of the year, so right now you will only see A-, A, A+ or B.

Also, special teachers (Music, P.E, Library, Art and Computers) do not assess as frequently as the homeroom and Spanish teacher because they only see the students once or twice a week. Do not be worried if grades are not posted as frequently as in those other classes. Remember the report cards show grades for the special teachers on a semester basis, not on a quarterly basis.  What you will see for these classes are Work Habits only, 1st and 3rd Quarters.
A reminder to all parents to please check all of your children’s teachers’ blogs. In the Elementary there are posted by 8:30 am on Monday. Teachers are in the process of linking their blogs and wikis to Power School. By September 20th,  all staff blogs will be linked and you must click on one of your child’s grades to view the teacher’s blog.

Also a very important reminder to make an appointment with you child’s teacher if you have a concern/question. Please call the office so we can leave a note for the teacher to get back to you and in gr. 2-5, a note in the Assignment Notebook will do the trick. Teachers hold the information and out of respect, it is important you meet with them first if you want to ask something related to your child. The Elementary Office is always open if your need to discuss your concerns further.

Thank you so much to the parents who wait for students at designated areas at dismissal time. Having clear halls help walk the children faster and in a safer way. Always let teacher know when you are taking him/her out of the line so they do not worry when they do not find your child at the bus or car areas at the end.

Important also is that you send a written note to the homeroom teacher if your child will be leaving school with a friend or someone different than the normal procedure. Students should not be making these arrangements from school. A note must be sent by the parent the day of.

Teachers are working on a common discipline code and during the first 3 weeks have worked on classroom procedures. Beginning this week you will notice students will be doing more in and out of class. Please check blogs, Assignment Notebook and the School Info e-mails so you keep up with what is happening.

Thank you for your cooperation these first weeks of school.
